Abraham on Immigration and the Welfare State

It is auf Deutsch, aber David Abraham, University of Miami School of Law, has posted Immigration and the Welfare State: Solidarity and the Problem of Homogeneity (or rather Einwanderung Im Wohlfahrtstaat: Die Solidarität und das Problem der Homogenität), which appeared in Der Staat 56 (2017), 1–26.  Here is the English abstract.  (The German abstract is longer.)
What is the basis of social solidarity in liberal welfare states? What is the relationship between immigration and social solidarity? Do culture and identity serve as an underpinning for successful redistribution measures? Can immigrant “integration” into “the nation” successfully overcome the fears of loss of control that fuel populist and anti-immigrant movements in western welfare states?
